T-Shirt Fundraiser Generates $108,268 for DC Eagle Cam
June 8th, 2016
With over 50 million views since it launched (February 2016), the DC Eagle Cam has grown into one of the most popular wildlife cams on the internet!
This project has become an incredible tool to inspire and educate students and adults about Bald Eagle conservation. People from all over the globe have fallen in love with watching this Bald Eagle family, but with so many people watching, the cost of operating and streaming the DC Eagle Cam feeds and website quickly escalated beyond resources for the 501(c)(3) non‑profit American Eagle Foundation (AEF).
In early April, the AEF, which provides the high‑definition streaming, camera operation, and web‑presence for the DC Eagle Cam project, was approached by a company called BonfireFunds. They offered to partner with the AEF to conduct a T-shirt fundraiser that could bring in some extra funds to help keep the project running successfully.
After working with Bonfire to come up the perfect design, the AEF launched (the first round of) the fundraiser on April 26th, 2016.
DC Cam viewers loved this Limited-Edition T-shirt! By May 8th, more than $98,000 had been raised, with a total of 5351 shirts sold!
The AEF relaunched the fundraiser due to high demand from the public and raised another $10,000 with another 533 shirts sold.
100% of the $108,268 raised is being used directly for the costs of running the DC Eagle Cam project.
BonfireFunds claims that this is by far the most successful fundraiser that has even been conducted on their website!
Brian Marks, CEO of BonfireFunds states, “We are so proud that our platform helped play a part in the DC Eagle Cam’s continued success. It was amazing watching the sales and excitement build each day. I think the eagle just became Bonfire’s official company bird.”
Thank you to Bonfire and to all the individuals who participated!
