Abraham is a Tennessee native and also a grandchild of our famous Bald Eagle breeding pair, Independence & Franklin, who reside on Eagle Mountain at Dollywood. One of the offspring from this pair was released into the wild and then returned to the area with a mate to built a nest—the nest that Abraham hatched in. As a young eaglet, Abraham’s nest blew over in a storm and he and his brother fell to the ground. AEF staff rescued the two eaglets and transported them to the UT Veterinary School for treatment. Abraham’s sibling, Winfield, fully recovered and was released back into the wild, but Abraham suffered severe damage to his left wing and could not be released. He is now under the permanent care of the AEF.
