Satch was illegally removed from his nest by a man whose intention was to profit from the sale of the bird. However, the person he chose to sell this beautiful Red-tailed hawk to was an undercover agent of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Satch was used as evidence and then turned over to John Stokes at the Memphis Zoo.
Named after baseball pitcher Satchel Paige, Satch was human-imprinted and could not be released into the wild.
Satch appeared in an advertisement for Fulnier motorcycles and in a commercial for Channel 13 News in Memphis, TN.
