BALD EAGLES LIBERTY & JUSTICE HATCH TWO EAGLETS IN
AMERICAN EAGLE FOUNDATION SANCTUARY AT DOLLYWOOD

Two Brand New Babies and One to Go!

PIGEON FORGE, TN
May 11, 2000

Two bald eaglets recently hatched at Dollywood's "Eagle Mountain Sanctuary" operated by the non-profit American Eagle Foundation (formerly National Foundation to Protect America's Eagles). The 4-day-old eaglets are parented by non-releasable eagles "Liberty" and "Justice" who still await the possible arrival of another baby from a third egg.

In six weeks, the Foundation will place the birds in an artificial nesting tower located on Douglas Lake in Dandrige, TN. They are scheduled to be released into the wilds of the Great Smoky Mountains at twelve-weeks of age in early August.

Information about the progress of the youngsters will be available on the American Eagle Foundation's "www.eagles.org" website. The names of the eaglets will be announced at the Foundation's 3rd annual "Concert For America's Eagles" on Saturday, June 17, 2000. The benefit show will feature performances by entertainers from ten of the best shows in the Smokies, plus a free-flight birds of prey demonstration. Tickets for the concert and other American Eagle Weekend events are still available at: 865-436-0171.

The American Eagle Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care, recovery and protection of the bald eagle and its habitat. It was founded in 1985. As part of its educational outreach to the public, it operates the "Eagle Mountain Sanctuary" bald eagle aviary on the Dollywood entertainment park, which is the largest presentation of non-releasable bald eagles in the world. All eagles in the exhibit are permanently disabled and can no longer survive in the wild. The Foundation also presents a "Wings Of America" birds of prey educational show on the park featuring trained non-releasable eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, vultures and condors.

One Month Later — How They've Grown!

At approximately 6 weeks old, the eaglets are no longer fluffy little chicks. They have been taken to the hack tower where they will stay until they are 12 weeks old. At that time, they will be released into the Great Smoky Mountains. The pictures below were taken June 14, 2000.
